REP 17 SEP 001

P.C.M.O.,

The Statement referred to in the Acting Colonial Sec- retary's minute that a case of suspected Plague had been seen by the health Officer on board the "Coromandel" and allowed to proceed in the ship is absolutely untrue. No such case was seen either by the Health Officer or the Deputy liealth Officer. Before the vessel was releas- ed from Quarantine every soul on board was examined and no evidence of any infection was visible on any of the men. We have always erred on the safe side, by sending any one down to Hospital for observation, on the slight- est appearance of any possible infectious disease.

26/6/00.

G.F.Jordan,

Health Officer of the Porto
